Normally, only one version of eVSM can be installed on a PC. This is installed in the c:\Program Files(x86).. directories. For testing and training purposes, multiple versions of eVSM are sometimes necessary. These additional versions can be installed on the Desktop via a special download. These additional installations are contained in a folder on the Desktop called "Desktop eVSMvXXX" where XXX represents the version number. The files are delivered in a ZIP download which can be un-ZIP’d directly on the Desktop.
The following provides instructions for how to switch between different versions when one or more Desktop versions are installed on a PC.
Switching between eVSM Versions
eVSM "remembers" the last version that was run on the PC. So, when you open any existing eVSM drawings, it will attempt to open it in the last version that was run. The last version run essentially becomes the default version.
To switch to another default version:
- Exit Visio if running --- This is very important
- In a Windows Explorer, navigate to the eVSM.vst file for the version you wish to run. Location of the eVSM.vst file is:
Installed Version | C:\Program Files (x86)\eVSM\Setup\Solutions |
Desktop Version | …\Desktop\Desktop eVSM vXXX\eVSM\Setup\Solutions |
Opening eVSM Files in the Wrong Version
If an eVSM file is opened in the version it was created in, it should open with no special messages.
If the file version is older than the eVSM version, a message similar to the following is issued.
If the version of eVSM is older than the version of the file, then the software will stop you opening it.
